I don’t know how many times I have played through Grandia, but it had to be at least five times! Grandia is a Japanese RPG, originally released on the Sega Saturn and later ported to the Sony PlayStation. It’s a pretty typical adventure story featuring a small town boy venturing out into the world. There’s a great range of characters, with the green-haired Feena being my personal favourite.
What I like about this game is how light-hearted most of it is, and how funny it is in places. There’s one early bit that is quite notorious. Rather than tell you about it, I’ve found a short clip of the “Justin, you pervert!” scene:
I also love the epic feel of the game. You go from exploring your little town, taking care of some bullies, to standing on the edge of the known world before stepping out and venturing beyond. The game just captures me, every time. I’ve not played it in years and am seriously considering giving it another go in the near future.
