Rebels Appear in Imperial Assault

I was delighted when Fantasy Flight Games started releasing ships from the amazing Star Wars: Rebels for their hit X-Wing Miniatures Game:

I really like the Rebels TV show and I wish Fantasy Flight would do something cool with it, but in the meantime it’s pretty great to see them using some of the elements of the show in their existing games.  The latest examples of this are some droid-themed upcoming releases for Imperial Assault, their dungeon crawly Descent clone:

All three of the new sets are really interesting, but the one that really grabs my attention is the one that features Hera Syndulla and her droid, Clapper, from Rebels.  They are not quite my favourite rebels characters, and I really can’t wait until they bring out a Sabine model, but they’re still pretty cool and characterful pieces.  Of this set, FFG writes:

Though 0-0-0 and BT-1 serve the malicious purposes of the Galactic Empire and Jawa Scavengers are only looking to make a profit, some beings in the galaxy fight for a cause larger than themselves. Hera Syndulla and her loyal astromech C1-10P are stoking the fires of resistance in a galaxy that’s choking under the heel of the Empire. With the Hera Syndulla and C1-10P Ally Pack, you can bring the will to rebel into your games of Imperial Assault.

In your campaigns, Hera may lead you to Tatooine in a desperate attempt to rescue Chopper from Imperial imprisonment. In any mission, Hera can quickly prove herself as an adept leader, calling the shots to keep your entire strike team on point. Chopper is also more than capable of handling himself in battle, using a variety of tricks and tools to knock your enemies back and keep you on top of any engagement.

Your skirmish games also benefit from this new Ally Pack. You’ll find a new skirmish map—Chopper Base, Atollon—that features two unique missions. You can even customize your Droids or Vehicles by strapping on some Scavenged Weaponry. This skirmish upgrade adds one damage to any attack, but more importantly, you can redeploy it to another unit if its current host is defeated. By passing the weaponry around, you may overpower your foes by sheer damage output over the course of the mission.

Whilst this all sounds cool, what really excites me is the fact that they are bringing elements from Rebels in at all, giving me hope that all of the crew will eventually make an appearance.  For now, here are the new models for Hera and Clapper:

The remaining two sets feature a pair of Imperial assassin droids and a cool, wee Jawa Scavenger.  I’m a little disappointed that the Jawa set only comes with a single Jawa, as I think they are small enough that two would have been fairer, I’m still impressed by all of the miniatures.  Here are the new models:

Another great expansion by Fantasy Flight, though I’ve yet to bite the bullet myself and buy into Imperial Assault.  It is becoming more and more tempting, though…
