Pre-Orders Up for Marvel Universe Miniatures Game

Marvel Universe: X-Men Starter

Exciting times for Knight Models!  UK stockists are starting to put up pre-order pages for the starter sets for their new game, Marvel Universe Miniatures Game, the camp, spandex-clad alternative to their extant Batman Miniatures Game.  Here are some pictures of the first three sets:

They feature a mix of new and repackaged miniatures, and are each going for £30 on Lvl Up Gaming.  The delivery date is a little vague, stating only that they will be released in late February.  Looking to the price tag, if this is what we can expect from most discounted UK stockists, that works out to £7.50 a miniature, which is comparable to the Batman Miniatures Game starters.  Individual models will be more expensive and ‘big’ models (Groot!) will be yet more.  As with Batman, you will be paying a bit more due to the licensed property, but the quality will be top notch.  I say that, but I did have a few issues with a Solomon Grundy model that I picked up.  Huge gaps to fill on that one.  Generally, though, the quality from Knight Models has been and continues to be excellent, so I am quite excited to see what else they put out for this.

The models in the starters are:

X-Men:

  • Cyclops
  • Wolverine
  • Colossus
  • Rogue

Avengers:

  • Iron Man
  • Captain America
  • Thor
  • Black Widow

Guardians of the Galaxy:

  • Star Lord
  • Gamora
  • Drax
  • Rocket Raccoon

Initially, I was convinced that the Guardians set would be my first choice, but looking at it, I am swithering between that and the X-Men.  It will also be interesting to see who will be in the first blister packs.  I assume Groot will be an early addition for the Guardians, whilst the Hulk model for the Avengers already exists and would just need repackaged.  For the X-Men, I would hope for Nightcrawler or Beast early on, as I love both of those characters.  The fact that the Magneto model already exists should hopefully mean that we may, at some point, see a Brotherhood of Mutants set.

Of course, I brim with enthusiasm now, but if I do buy them, I wonder if I can maintain that attitude long enough to paint them…
