Pulp, 7TV and the Doctor

For a while now, I’ve had my eye on the Doctor Who Miniatures Game, freely available from the good people at Crooked Dice. I downloaded the rulebook and the various supplements, had a read through and was impressed both by the rules and the production value of the pdf rulebooks.

Today I decided to take the plunge and pick up some bits and bobs to start playing Doctor who and other Pulp games. My first port of call was Heresy, a small miniatures company run by the wonderful Andy Foster. I picked up some of their stuff a year or two ago and really liked it. Today, I ordered three miniatures from them (click for bigger view):

I then popped by Hasslefree Miniatures, a company I’d never used before, but I had heard of them. From them, I picked up a further three minis:

These will go along well with the Daleks and Cybermen already languishing in my painting queue!

Now, you might not realise where the female with the gun and coat fits in with the whole Doctor Who theme. Well, Crooked Dice have recently taken their Doctor Who rules and adapted them to an original game (one they can actually sell) called 7TV which is a pulp game based largely on cult TV or, as they put it, “Inch High Spy-Fi”:

The book should arrive next week, but until them, I’m flipping through my PDF version and it looks great. Again, the production value is top notch and the characters are very customisable. Really looking forward for my haul arriving so I can get cracking on these new games!

Ding!

As has been mentioned before, I’m a big WoW fan. I’ve not had much time to really play this year and spent my game time more on levelling than raiding or gearing up. I really enjoy the levelling process, especially in the newer Cataclysm content which just seems so much more streamlined than the older content.

Today, I got my latest level 85 character, my Tauren Druid. Tolstoy just hit level 85:

Tolstoy is my sixth level 85 character, following in the footsteps of my Shaman, Warlock, Paladin, Mage and Priest (Dóra the Explorer!). Here’s a quick screencap of the character screen on my main server:

Yeah I had a problem, but I’m getting better!

Naked Cryx

I did a quick Warmachine intro for a friend at the gaming club last week. Going in, the game was supposed to be a three-way (oh dear…) game. I had another friend visiting who was going to come along and join us. The plan was to use the Khador and the Mercenaries I already had painted up, but a third force was called for.

I’d recieved an amazing deal on a Cryx force a few months back and, the night before the club game, we broke them out and built them up.They actually look pretty good. I’ve never been a huge fan of the Cryx models, but that Slayer and Deneghra are pretty slick.

Anyways, a couple of group shots of these sweet models:

The legs of the light jacks were incredibly annoying, by the way.

No idea on an ETA on painting, at least when I’m still sitting with all these Grey Knights in front of me…

The Double Handed Sword Embuggerance

The new Grey Knight models are fantastic and awesome and magical and I love them. I’ve got a list I’m happy with and have just finished building all the units I’ll need for the upcoming tournament.

Enough gushing.

Lining up two handed weapons with two separate arms is more than a little annoying. Quite frankly, if this is a major reason why I’d rule out expanding this army in the future!

I’ll try to get some pictures up tomorrow or early next week.

Tournament List – First Draft

With the club tournament pushed back a month, I might just have time to design an army specifically for the tournament rather than co-opting my fail armies to mitigate their intrinsic crappyness.

With that in mind, here’s the GK list I’m sitting at just now, pending changes:

Grand Master, Psycannon

5 Paladins, Psycannon, Banner of Brotherhood

10 Man Strike Squad, 2x Psycannon, Rhino

10 Man Strike Squad, 2x Psycannon, Rhino

5 Interceptors, 5x Nemesis Daemon Hammer

Dreadnought, Extra Armour

Dreadnought, Extra Armour

Top 10 Warhammer Models: #1

#1: Sigvald the Magnificent

Magnificent! Really lives up to his name, this one. The model captures for me the dark elegance of Slaanesh and is an interesting model to use in a Warriors of Chaos army, as he stands in stark contrast to the bulkier warriors that make up the rest of the army.

I recently picked up one of these, though am unsure what I will use it for. I considered using it as a pre-heresy Emperor’s Children officer, but the size is a potential issue as he is far more slender than power-armoured Marines. Could stick him in my lovely unit of purple Chaos Warriors I suppose…

#2: The Changeling

A recent addition to the Daemon range, the Changeling is a special unit champion option. The artwork for him in the book was fabulous, but for a good while, there was no model for him. This led to some interesting conversion from some, and a simple painting pink of random other models from others.

I love how close this model is to the excellent artwork and it really captures the whole Tzeentchy vibe.
