Another fun week in gaming! It started off really well with a nice evening of games with friends on Saturday. We started with some Onitama, which went down really well. Having played this last week, this was my second go at it, and I really appreciated it all the more as it continued to click with me. We then moved on to introduce our friends to Harry Potter: Hogwarts Battle. It was the first time I’ve played with four players and it was cool to see all of the player powers in action and interacting with each other. Again, the game went down very well.
On Wednesday, we broke out the DC Comics Deckbuilding Game. Again, it was a good game, and was quite close by the end. I like this game a lot, but I do feel it lacks a bit of structure. Fun, though!
On Thursday at the weekly Northern Knights games night, I had a go at Star Wars: Destiny. I’m not totally sure what I was expecting, but the gameplay took me by surprise. It was a lot more straightforward than I thought it would be but was really satisfying.
My first game saw me using Kylo Ren and losing to a Rey deck, whilst my second game saw me using a Rey deck and beating a Boba Fett one. The upgrades and character powers are really interesting, and I think there’s a lot of scope for finding and building decks for synergy. I don’t know that it’s a game I’ll be buying into anytime soon, but I really enjoyed it.
After I’d finished with Destiny, I took a wander across the hall to watch an ongoing Age of Sigmar day. One of our clubmates is very excited about the Malign Portents campaign, so was keen to get a couple of games in. The game in questions saw the Kharadron Overlords facing off against the new Legions of Nagash.
Was cool to see the new rules in action and It’s always great to see two fully painted armies facing off against each other. In the end, the game went to the sky dwarfs who managed to kill (rekill? Endeaden?) the undead force.
Until next week, happy gamings!
