Hobby Update 05/01/18: Infinity and Shadespire and Necromunda, oh my!January 5, 2018
It’s a new year and I’ve decided not to do a resolutions post this time. 2017 saw me make progress on my resolutions, with more games being played and a lot more models painted, mainly as part of my 1000pt Tzeentch army for Age of Sigmar. Here’s a look at most of those models:
Missing from that picture is another three Skyfires, ten Brimstone Horrors and a Burning Chariot. It was a lot of fun to paint up the army and it’s the first time in years that I’ve done anything like that. If nothing else, it showed me what I could do. With these and some other odds and ends, my total number of painted models for 2017 adds up to 58. A big improvement over previous years to be sure, but I want to do better this year. I’d like to pass 100 models in 2018. Of course, that’s easier said than done and I’ve written in the past about my bad habits in terms of buying miniatures and not painting them.
In the coming year, I’d like to expand this Tzeentch force to 2000 or possibly 2500 points. The additions will include a lot more Pink Horrors. I love Pink Horrors and the fact that they can throw around some serious magic and a decent amount of shooting. Add to that a few units of Flamers, some Screamers and a second chariot, this time with a Herald on top. Most of the intended new units have already been built, so one of the more tedious aspects is already finished. That should help!
Additionally, I have spent a bit of time over the past few days building some other models. These have included some Aleph and Ariadna for Infinity, both gangs from the Necromunda: Underhive box and the two crews from the Shadespire box. Here’s what I’ve been up to on that front:
In terms of my priorities for thisyear, here are my top targets for 2018:
- Increase Tzeentch army
- Paint up some new crews for Malifaux, starting with some Outcasts
- Paint up my Aleph for Infinity
- Decide on and paint up a new army for Warhammer 40,000
- Build and paint scenery/terrain with the aim of having complete boards for Infinity and Malifaux
I have some secondary objectives that I’d like to accomplish. These are mostly smaller projects:
- Paint up at least 1 Necromunda gangs
- Paint up at least 1 Blood Bowl team
- Decide on and paint a skirmish force for Age of Sigmar: Skirmish
- Paint anything else I want to paint for fun, gaming use or to up my total.
Ambitious? Yep, but I’d rather aim high and not get there than aim low and get complacent. I don’t really expect to meet all of my goals, but I’m keen to give it a go!
In other news, I’m still attending our local gaming group, the Northern Knights. I’ve been playing lots of different games there recently, but the last two weeks have seen me playing Eldritch Horror, which had been sitting on my shelf unplayed for far too long. Last week’s game was really about learning the game and we did not finish. This week’s game saw us coming pretty close to winning, but ultimately failing at the last hurdle and losing to Yog-Sothoth. Here are some pics of the board, along with my bag packed for the evening:
Good times, friends. Have a great 2018, and I hope to be posting WiP pics by this time next week!
