Disciples of Tzeentch Slow Grow League Lists

Our local gaming club, The Northern Knights, is currently running an Age of Sigmar slow grow league.  This is a big part of what has triggered my reacquaintance with Games Workshop and the Warhammer franchise.  For this league, I have started an army of Disciples of Tzeentch.  The three points limits that have been set for the league are 500, 750 and 1000 and the following chart is being used for army composition:

At the moment, we are still playing with and painting our 500 point lists, but are also looking ahead to what we’d like to see in our 750 and 1000 point lists.  I’m also still pretty new to Age of Sigmar, so whether my lists are actually any good… remains to be seen.  At the moment, my 3 lists look something like this:

500 Points

Herald of Tzeentch

10 Pink Horrors of Tzeentch

10 Brimstone Horrors of Tzeentch

10 Brimstone Horrors of Tzeentch

1 Burning Chariot of Tzeentch

My initial list seems to be working relatively well.  I’ve played several games with this list and I am quite happy with how it has performed.  The sheer amount of shooting that a Tzeentch army can put out is rather staggering, as is the amount of damage they can do with their magic.  The Herald is a wizard, sure, but more impressively, so is the unit of Pink Horrors.  This lets me throw a lot of spells around and cause a lot of mortal wounds.

I’ve also been very impressed by the performance of the Brimstone Horrors who can put out a huge number of dice (albeit with little chance of actually damaging anything) and fulfil the role of tarpit rather admirably.  They rarely survive the battle, but can hold up the enemy long enough for my other units to nuke them down.

The most disappointing unit has been my Burning Chariot which has put out very little damage and has yet to earn back its own points cost in any of my games.  If nothing else, at least it has served as a pretty compelling distraction/murder-magnet.  I do love the model though, so it’s probably staying in the list.

750 Points

Herald of Tzeentch

10 Pink Horrors of Tzeentch

10 Pink Horrors of Tzeentch

3 Tzaangor Skyfires

1 Burning Chariot of Tzeentch

I swithered and I dithered over what to add to bring my army up to 750 points.  Obviously, I needed a second Battleline unit but, beyond that, I was unsure whether I wanted to bring Flamers, Screamers or something else.  It took me a while to shift out of the focus on Daemons of Tzeentch and consider bringing some other units.  With that little adjustment to my thinking, I think I’ve settled on bringing in some Tzaangor.

This list feels very transitional, as it includes the Tzaangor Skyfires, but not the Tzaangor Shaman that buffs them.  I still might make a further change and take out the chariot in favour of a Shaman and a unit of Brimstone Horrors.  This appeals to me as I was a little disappointed about taking the Brimstones out of the list.

1000 Points

Herald of Tzeentch

Tzaangor Shaman

10 Pink Horrors of Tzeentch

10 Pink Horrors of Tzeentch

3 Tzaangor Skyfires

3 Tzaangor Skyfires

1 Burning Chariot of Tzeentch

Initially, I’d considered including a Lord of Change at 1000 points, but putting on one big beastie that eats up 30% of my points just did not seem prudent.  I like the casting that the Lord of Change brings to the table, but it seems a bit of overkill at 1000 points.

I like how mobile this list seems, and I’m really looking forward to playing it.  It would probably benefit me to take out the chariot in favour of another 3 Skyfires.  I think this would be more competitive, but I do like the Burning Chariot, even if I know it’s not as effective, so it will stay.

I will be sure to let you know how the league progresses.

  1. I’m a few steps behind you with collecting my own Tzeentch army, plus I’m new to Age of Sigmar. I’m going to use this post as a guideline for expanding my army and playing my first games. 🙂

    • Happy to be of use. Only played a few games myself, but loving the amount of magic and shooting this army puts out.

My favourite unit so far is probably the Brimstones – such a good tarpit and put out so many shots!
