It's such effective paint scheme, I like it. Few strokes of lighter metal paint would be perfect, but they look great so far. I especially like the skull on the shields.

love the site, thanks for the heads up on Bloodbowl Team Manager.

P.S. you paint like a pro man - ever thought of donating some brush hours to add value to a charity auction item?

As Organiser of Thrudball, a 100% not for profit Bloodbowl Tournament in aid of cancer charities, I'm always (like now) pushing my luckto convince painting experts to help our cause. £10,000 raised in five years, a measure how shamelessly I beg...please? Cherry on top?

Ah, now I hadn't considered the new magic rules. You are completely correct there.

The rule against Ethereals is pretty crucial too.

I think generally, your changes are pretty solid and you are of course right that the warband rules are quite out of date. I don't really forsee GW releasing a free update any time soon, so adaptations like yours are all we'll really have to get us by. The main thing for me is, as the rules push the game size higher and higher, that smaller games are not completely overlooked, especially where new players are concerned.

Thank you for your reply, it was interesting and really gives food for thought.

I'm not sure that I agree with you that the Warbands rules can be used as is with a few changes to army selection. Just for starters there are a number of Armies with new books that simply arent covered in the new rules - Beasts of Chaos, Warriors of Chaos and Daemons to name a few.

That said I do agree in essence that the core rules still stand. However the thought of a 2nd level mage with up to 12 pd at his disposal does worry me a tad at 200-500 points.

There are also some very broken combos out there - 2 small units of horrors and 6 flamers with the commander as the flamer champion may upset anyones day.

I am running an 8th ed campaign at our club starting next week and will be producing some suggestions as to some changes to the warbands rules - I am currently toying with the following:

Composition. - Use the 8th ed force composition at each months level. ie: for month 1 base your force design around a 500 point force. Note that the adjudicator may allow deviation from this if they think it is appropriate or the player can come up with a suitably convincing argument to change this.

Characters:
A maximum of 1 character is allowed for the first 300 points.

Magic users and priests are not allowed for the first 500 points. Thereafter we use the 8th ed rules with the following ammendments. Max pd at 500 points = 6, 1000 points = 8; 1500 points = 10; 2000 points - 12. - There are 6 spells in each list [excl signature]. at 500 points the player may not have any of the top 3 spells in any list [reroll the selection]. at 1000 points, the top two and at 1500, the top spell.

Magic Items:
No magic weapons, banners etc may be taken for the first 300 points - note that intrinsic magic items may be taken as per the Warbands rules - wight blades, Jezzails etc.

Units:
No units that can ony be affected by magic or magic items are allowed for the first 300 points.
At no time may the army consist of more magic users and missile troops than other troop types. [numbers - not points].

I had a unit of 5 bulls, a unit of 6 bulls, 8 ironguts and 2 units of 3 leadbelchers.

But I do agree with you on the slaughtermaster. He's useful for dispels since I normally face a slann, but I could do more with the points.
